Celebrating Women in Mining this International Women’s Day

Eldorado is committed to safe, inclusive, and innovative operations. When we talk about diversity at Eldorado, we mean it in the broadest sense – welcoming diverse people, thinking and ideas.

One dimension of diversity is gender and on March 8th, we will join in the global celebration for International Women’s Day to acknowledge women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate achievements towards gender equality.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity.

Eldorado team members from around the world celebrate International Women’s Day with the #EmbraceEquity pose

Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

As you probably know, our industry has traditionally lagged in the representation of women in the workforce. Still, we see it shifting and we are committed to being part of that positive change. Take a moment to value progress through examples of how Eldorado is promoting equity in the workplace, thanks to the efforts of men and women committed to improving workplaces for all.

As we think about Inclusive Diversity across Eldorado, the #EmbraceEquity call to action extends to all facets of diversity. Together, we can challenge traditional assumptions and bias that may have caused feelings of exclusion or inadvertently created barriers for people. We are on a journey together and through our commitment to a culture of inclusion we can make meaningful, positive changes.

Global
Improving brand support for women  To further the inclusion of women in mining, we have formally signed on as a sponsor of Artemis Project, an organization established to accelerate business outcomes for women entrepreneurs. This sponsorship allows Eldorado to extend our commitment to providing access to opportunities beyond our workforce to our supply chain. This includes partnering with a sister project, Artemisa Mining Challenge, to explore opportunities to attract women mining engineers in Latin America to Canada.
Sponsorship of International Women in Mining  Eldorado Gold has once again signed on as a Silver Sponsor of the International Women in Mining (IWiM) organization for 2023. IWiM is committed to advancing women in the mining sector by acting as an industry change agent and trendsetter. We will increase our reach to prospective female talent through the IWiM network of over 11,000 women in mining.
Leadership Development  We recently completed our core neuroscience training among global leaders to focus on mitigating bias, growth mindset and strengthen connections between leaders and employees with psychological safety.
Global Employee Listening Strategy   We provide an electronic platform for the feedback of our employee population available in all official languages of Eldorado’s operations. Surveys allow us to gauge sentiment on engagement and other business-relevant topics to continuously improve the way we work. Demographics – including gender, but also other facets of diversity – allow us to better understand the intersectionality of employee experiences and focus our efforts where it matters most.
Global Respect in the Workplace  We recently launched a global Respectful Workplace Policy  including training for our workforce and mechanisms have been added for people to express concerns and seek support where needed.

As we think about Inclusive Diversity across Eldorado, the #EmbraceEquity call to action extends to all facets of diversity.
